E ala e, ka lā i ka hikina, i ka moana, ka moana hohonu, piʻi ka lewa, ka lewa nuʻu, i ka hikina, aia ka lā, e ala e!

Awaken/Arise, the sun is in the East, from the ocean, the ocean deep, climbing (to) the heaven, the heaven highest, in the East, there is the sun, awaken!

A Hawaiian chant used to this day to greet the morning sun.  Kumu Kalani tells us that the sun rises, and the sun sets - it follows its set path every day - “that is the way of it.”

Our dear friend, Kalani Souza, is a gifted storyteller, singer, songwriter, musician, performer, poet, philosopher, priest, political satirist and peacemaker.  He has touched many through his work to heal communities and our honua.  And now, his family needs our help.  This bracelet was inspired by Kalani and Lea during our time on Kauaʻi a few years ago.  Profits from our E Ala E bracelet will go towards Kalani’s medical treatments through January 8, 2017.  For more information or to make a direct contribution, please visit his YouCaring page.

Kalani teaches Lea the meaning of time to traditional Hawaiians after welcoming the sun in Waimea on the island of Kauaʻi. Lea also learns about the word aloha.
