Mauna Kea Cuff
Mauna Kea Cuff
This cuff honors Mauna Kea on the island of Hawaiʻi. Commonly, it is translated as "white mountain" for the snow that covers its summits during the winter months. But, cultural observers know it by its other names - Mauna Akea, Mauna a Wākea. The tallest island mountain (tallest mountain in the world when measured from its base on the ocean floor) is revered by Hawaiians as the alter of Wākea, Sky Father and progenitor of the Hawaiian people. It is the piko or navel of the Pacific and connects us to our cosmic origins.
This adjustable, unisex cuff is made of 316L stainless steel in a brushed finish. The coordinates of Mauna Kea are engraved on the face. Just as Hawaiians celebrate kauna, or hidden meanings, we have embedded a poetical saying found in Mary Kawena Pukui's book, ʻŌlelo Noʻeau, hidden on the inside of the cuff.
NOTE: The black paint in the engraved text will fade over time.
Approximately 7.5" around, 1/2" wide and 1/8" thick, this cuff is fairly substantial.
“Mauna Kea, kuahiwi ku haʻo i ka mālie. Mauna Kea, standing alone in the calm.”
